David Brinkman studied in UCC and completed an MSc in Surgery there after internship. Currently working as an ENT SpR in Waterford, he has spent 3 years as ISTG treasurer before becoming president. He is open-minded and always has time for trainees that wish to get in touch, especially if they have questions about doing research in surgery or have an interest in joining him in ENT.

Alison McHugh graduated from UCD Medicine in 2016 & completed core surgical training in University Hospital Waterford, specialising in Otolaryngology for ST2. Following a year as Special Lecturer in Otolaryngology for UCD, she commenced the higher surgical training programme in Otolaryngology in 2020.

Éanna Ryan

Éanna Ryan is a General Surgery SpR. He completed an MD under the supervision of Professors Des Winter and Kieran Sheahan prior to the surgical scheme. He is passionate about surgical research, training and education. In his role as General Surgery Rep he is keen to assist younger doctors looking to pursue a career in surgery, as well as to advocate for general surgery trainees as part of this important national forum

Vascular
Mary Connolly

Mary Connolly is an ST7 trainee, currently on placement in Cork University Hospital. Vascular became its own distinct speciality in 2017 and Mary was amongst the first trainees to enter the new Vascular HST scheme.  Since then interest in the Vascular Scheme has increased year on year.  It is a diverse speciality, requiring an in depth knowledge of every part of anatomy and meticulous technical skills.  Postgraduate education within the Vascular Programme is frequent and delivered by expert consultants on a regular basis.

I am currently in my second year of the Orthopaedic SpR training scheme working in Cappagh hospital. I look forward to being a part of the ISTG over the coming year and solving matters relating to surgical training in Ireland as well as improving the environment for incoming trainees. Outside of work I enjoy football, cycling, golf, hiking and travelling.
